If you want
the purest taste of roots music happening now in America’s
Southland, this is it! Great songs covering all roots styles
by eight artists well-known and touring in the Southeast US.
Anahita is Tara Burke (Fursaxa) and cellist Helena Espvall (Espers). Burke recently showed up on Important Records as part of the duo of Tau Emerald with Sharron Kraus, while Espvall contributed a beautiful piece to the James Blackshaw-curated Garden of Forking Paths. Matricaria is a beautiful, laboriously created, floating affair of skeletal organ drones, ceremonial singing, and subtly frantic instrumental accompaniment that conjures up a natural woodland romp and stomp. The album was recorded between 2005 and 2008. All tracks were recorded on a four-track, then engineered by Sam Cusumano.

Sucarnochee Revue radio program!
Mississippi Chris Sharp regularly tours the Mississippi/Alabama region.
Singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mississippi Chris Sharp has
been performing for more than 30 years, with musical roots firmly established
in bluegrass, old-country blues, and acoustic music. Influence by everyone
from Jimmie rodgers to Bill Monroe, Sharp’s music appeals to all those who
love roots music.
We Can Rise
Chana Rothman brings a fresh approach to the singer-songwriter genre with her earthy vocals, poetic lyrics, unique percussive guitar style, organic beats, and catchy rhythms! What emerged is the genre-bending We Can Rise, featuring her trademark blend of bilingual (Hebrew-English) rhymes and love songs to the subway (“Gates of Justice”). Blending elements from KT Tunstall’s power vocals, Matisyahu’s spiritual reggae, and Jack Johnson’s rhythmic lyricism, Rothman creates an album that showcases powerful messages with a driving rock fusion backbeat. We Can Rise covers topics from youth empowerment to peace in the Middle East. Rothman continues to pack houses at New York’s legendary music clubs, including the Knitting Factory, the Bitter End, and the Mercury Lounge, establishing herself as a powerful presence on the local and national music scene. Mastered by Larry Alexander (Bruce Springsteen, Rolling Stones, Diana Ross). Produced, recorded, and mixed by C. Lanzbom (Soulfarm). Features drummer Shawn Pelton (Sheryl Crow, Saturday Night Live Band).

“A wonderful songwriter whose 2003 release Play was recorded live at Sampson’s Lounge in Annapolis … Angie Miller established herself through several songwriters series. Miller’s first album, Ricochet … included a cameo from the guitarist Danny Gatton and leaned toward poetic lyrics intertwined with pop rhythms.” — Washington Post
