CHOOSY
KIDS
This Is My Body
Choosy is not
just a character… he's a movement! This little green alien
is on a mission to stop childhood obesity in its tracks. How? By
educating kids in healthy behavior. Of course, for kids to be engaged,
there has to be something to capture their attention - in this case,
it is energetic, trendy music that borrows from the kind of musical
styles they regularly hear on the radio, like electronic pop and
hip-hop. Nestled between those beats and breaks are lyrics about
choosing food wisely, empowerment in one's dietary decisions, and
several songs that encourage kids to get their butts off the couch
and move. Kids pick up many of their good and bad habits early in
life, so Choosy's message is to help kids learn the value of healthy
living now, so that as they grow, they will be fit for their future. |

ELSKA
Middle
of Nowhere
Get ready to set
sail to the magical island of Elska! The project of singer/actress
Shelley Wollert, Elska is a cute, effervescent character who lives
on a secret volcanic island in the Arctic, filled with wondrous friends
just waiting to be met. At its core, the music of Elska bears a candy-coated
electropop style that marries the quirkiness of Bjork with the dreamy
pop of Saint Etienne. Perky keyboard tones and bubbly rhythms bop along
while Wollert's wispy smooth vocals give the music a fluffy sweetness,
like musical cotton candy. Her lyrics, mostly detailing Elska's fun
adventures on the chilly island, are incredibly catchy and quickly
stick in your mind. An adorable album, kids will find themselves for
more time with Winter Bear, Arctic Fox and their guide Elska. |

PAUL,
ELLIS
Hero In You, The
Folk music icon
Ellis Paul returns to the realm of children's music with another
album of clever, educational music for children. THE HERO IN YOU
is an inspiring musical look at figures whose contributions have
shaped society, and a reminder to children that everyone has it within
themselves to be a hero. Paul focuses on a diverse roster of public
figures that includes baseball star Jackie Robinson, painter Georgia
O'Keefe, dancer Martha Graham, civil rights activist Rosa Parks,
Albert Einstein and many others. Each song features colorful lyrics
that pair catchy refrains with a history lesson about the focal figure,
discussing their background, the events that led to their noteworthy
achievement or the personal qualities that gave them the drive to
persevere. The music differs with each song, though folk and rock
elements are prominent throughout, with some contemporary beats and
a strong dose of acoustic guitar.

ALEX & THE
KALEIDOSCOPE BAND
I’m So Glad
With over 14
awards to their name and scores of young listeners cheering them
on, Alex & the Kaleidoscope Band keep on trucking with another
album of rockin' kids music. With songs like "Tyrannosaurus" and "Kangaroo!," there's
clearly a lot of area to have some fun, and this album certainly
makes good on that suggestion. Lead singer Alex Mitnick's warm, low-toned
voice leads the way through ten delightfully delirious songs that
pair rock with folk-pop sensibilities, a touch of reggae and nods
to world music. "Dino Dig" is an example of all these influences
blended together - the excavation themed ditty has a bubbly Afro-pop
style rhythm with upbeat pop and rock elements. Another highlight,
the warmly acoustic "Water Lily," pairs a light reggae
beat with a theme of tranquility, utilizing the Tibetan mantra "Om
Mane Padme Hum" at one point in the song.

BARI
KORAL FAMILY ROCK BAND
Rock and Roll Garden
With her effervescent
kindie pop tunes and her silky singing voice, Bari Koral is certain
to be a hit with your pre-K child. A former indie singer/songwriter
with a following on the college circuit, Koral realized that her
characteristic folk-rock sound could be a hit with younger audiences.
Her intuition was correct, as this album - ROCK AND ROLL GARDEN was
an award-winning hit (Parents' Choice, NAPPA Gold) that prompted
the New York Post to dub her the "Sheryl Crow for kids." The
songs here are simple yet infectious, with lyrics about animals,
friendship, colors and exploring sound. Koral is joined by bandmates
Dred Scott (bass, piano, organ), Eric Halverson (rhythm) and Dave
Phelps (guitar), who aid her in creating a bouncey, bubbly sound
that is both parents and kids will find endearing.

ROCKABYE
BABY!
Lullaby Renditions of Muse
CD $9.98 / $16.98
Over the last
decade, English rock band Muse had become a force of nature, filling
concert halls and radio waves with their infectious, epic anthems.
You newborn may just be a Muse fan in training… they just
need a more palatable form of the music that's better suited to their
tender ears. Rockabye Baby's "Lullaby Renditions of Muse" is
the answer, featuring a dozen of the band's hits in lullaby format.
That means that songs like "Resistance," "Time is
Running Out," "Uprising" and "Knights of Cydonia" are
re-imagined with softer instruments, like bells, xylophone, guitar
and mellotron. The melodies are still very recognizable, just presented
in a more peaceful, instrumental manner. |

ROBERTS,
JUSTIN
Lullaby
USA Today called
Justin Roberts "The Paul McCartney of Children's Music" and
one listen to his album LULLABY reveals why. His rich, yet mellow
voice, his relaxed delivery, a penchant for melodic folk-pop arrangements
- all of these factors come together to create a persona that regards
children with respect and intelligence, while reveling in the occasional
bit of whimsy. LULLABY features ten songs on the soft side designed
for the latter half of the day when you want your child to settling
down because bedtime is coming soon. Songs like "Polar Bear" and "a
Wild One" are cute and catchy, yet with a breezy serenity that
is hypnotic. "Count Them As They Go," is likewise endearing
lyrically and vocally, as Roberts gently sings of counting sheep
amidst cascading piano, strings and faint percussion. Parents will
enjoy this release as well for its wistful reflection on childhood.

SONGS AND STORY
Peter Pan
J.M. Barrie's
story of Peter Pan - the boy who never wanted to grow up, became
one of Disney's most prized animated features. The adventures of
Peter, Wendy, John and Michael in Neverland - which included game-playing
with the Lost Boys, swimming withy mermaids and thwarting the evil
Captain Hook, truly captures the theme of wishes coming true that
is so prevalent in Disney's stories and features. This edition of "Songs
and Story" features a re-telling of the Disney version of PETER
PAN, as well as several of the original songs from the film - "Main
Title (The Second Star to the Right)/All This Has Happened Before," "You
Can Fly! You Can Fly! You Can Fly!," "Following the Leader" and "Your
Mother and Mine." Includes original character voices and sound
effects. |

SO
THIS IS OPERA PRESENTS
Gingerbread Man / Three Bears Opera
Esteemed soprano
Yvette Lewis has a reputation for excellence within the opera community;
she has performed with the Washington Opera, the Opera Theater of
Northern Virginia and the Baltimore Symphony (among many others),
and performs at over 200 schools a year. With this musical project,
Lewis shines a spotlight on the joys of opera music by setting classic
fairy tales to music. Kids will be catching "The Gingerbread
Man" as Lewis sweetly sings the story of the animated cookie
who high-tails it out of the kitchen and sets off on an adventure
across the countryside. Next, Lewis gets it "just right" with
a fun adaptation of "The Three Bears." In both cases, Lewis'
voice is joined by a soundtrack of jazzy rhythms and upbeat instrumentation.
